Daughters of the King had its humble beginnings in the spring of 1995. Only about 5-7 pages in length, and with a hand-drawn cover, it sported the title B.C. Magazine (B.C. represented my initials, though people sometimes thought them to mean "Before Christ"! J). It was made up of jokes and riddles, crafts, recipes, brief articles, and short stories. Soon I changed the title to Girls of Yesterday, expanded each issue, and improved the format. In 1996 my friend Liesl (who edited her own magazine, Girls Today) and I decided to combine our publications. We kept her title, and switched over to bi-monthly issues. In 1997, we decided to make the content a bit more serious and of a greater spiritual value, as well as change the title to Daughters of the King, taken from Psalm 45:13. Liesl co-edited DK and contributed heavily until spring 2001, when she announced that her schedule prevented her from being able to participate at the previous level. Bethany became the sole editor. Daughters of the King is now published four times a year (quarterly), and is 28 pages in length. Content includes an editorial, letters from readers, inspirational articles and stories, historical stories and articles, biographies, and more. In each issue, we share insights and ideas, build friendships, learn from each other, encourage one another in our walk with the Lord, and strive to become like the “virtuous woman” described in Proverbs 31. However, although we realize the importance of spiritual and character-building material to read, we also try to provide our readers with a good balance of humorous articles and stories, as well as a few stories for pure entertainment (although all are written from a Christian perspective). Humor and entertainment definitely play important parts in the King’s daughter’s life, although they should certainly not be over-emphasized. We have noticed that, sadly enough, the majority of Christian publications for young ladies put such a strong emphasis on the spiritual side of the Christian girl’s life, that there is no room left for any lighter articles or stories. We feel that Christian young ladies should be well-balanced, and hence, we endeavor to provide our readers with a large variety of reading materials. About the Editor
